Shiqing Ma works at the intersection of security, machine learning, and software engineering. He builds secure, transparent computing systems that combine ML components with program analysis and verification so that both the system and the algorithms can be checked for security. He is affiliated with the UMass AI Security Lab, the AI Safety Initiative, and the Cybersecurity Institute.
Shiqing Ma is an Associate Professor in the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences at UMass Amherst. He was previously an assistant professor at Rutgers (2019-2023). He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2019 and a B.E. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is an NSF CAREER Award recipient.
He is affiliated with the UMass AI Security Lab.
Professor Ma's research has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious US National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award in 2023. Furthermore, he has been honored with Distinguished Paper Awards at prominent conferences such as the USENIX Security Symposium in 2017 and the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium in 2016. In addition to these notable achievements, Professor Ma has received several other paper awards from various conferences and workshops.
