Gerome Miklau's research is on privacy-preserving AI and the fair, responsible use of data. He designs algorithms and open-source systems for differentially private analysis, sharing, and release, including synthetic-data generation (for example AIM) and engines such as PrivateSQL and Ektelo. He co-founded Tumult Labs (acquired by LinkedIn in 2025); that technology was donated to OpenDP. He previously consulted for the U.S. Census Bureau on algorithms used in the 2020 census. He is an Adjunct Professor at UMass CICS and a Principal Staff Software Engineer at LinkedIn.
Gerome Miklau is an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at UMass Amherst and a Principal Staff Software Engineer at LinkedIn. He was a full-time professor at UMass from 2005 to 2022. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2005 and bachelor's degrees from UC Berkeley. Awards include an NSF CAREER, the ACM SIGMOD Dissertation Award, and ACM PODS and ICDT test-of-time awards.
He is affiliated with the DREAM Lab.
